Bring on the Wine!

Clyde’s of Georgetown
3236 M St.
202-333-9180

Half price wine night at Clyde’s is like finding a forgotten $10 bill in the back pocket of a freshly laundered pair of jeans. “Every time Sunday afternoon rolls around and I’m reminded it’s half price wine night its like a huge surprise. Every single Sunday,” Gin notes. The deal runs 6:30 to 10:30 each and every Sunday at the Clyde’s of Georgetown and offers exactly what the name implies, bottles of wine at half price. But you have to make sure you order your bottle at the bar, because the deal doesn’t apply in the main seating area.

The interior of Clyde’s of Georgetown is pretty much in keeping with the other Clyde’s restaurants peppered across the metro area, classic American style in a laid back atmosphere. The bar is not as impressive as those of other Clyde’s in the area, but this is the only one of the local chain restaurant that offers this deal, so get over it. The bar area is a tad bit cramped and tends to get crowded towards the end of the night, as patrons scurry to order a few extra bottles before the deal expires. But no worries because there are plenty of bottles to go around.

When we roll through with our crew we tend to stick to the lower priced bottles, usually paying only $12-$15 a bottle. But if you have the money and are willing to spend it, this is the perfect opportunity to try an expensive wine at an incredibly cheap price. Luckily, our resident sommelier Wino makes sure to look over our selection before we make any rash decisions. “Just stick to wines you know you like,” she comments.

The bartenders are friendly and eager to make a suggestion, which can be helpful if you don’t have Wino around. Arguably the best part of the ordering experience though is the fact that they offer you a taste of your selection before handing over the bottle. I always swirl, sniff, and swish like a pro, pretending like I own the place. The wait staff is extremely nice and my crew and I have always received excellent service. Ask to be waited on by Paige (our favorite Southern belle) and I promise a great time.

The crowd is usually a mixed bag of college students, local young professionals, and the occasional creepy older man. The attire is casual, with people wearing everything from nice jeans and dressier tops to flannel shirts and baseball caps. Don’t expect to meet your soul mate or even make friends with other patrons as most people come in small crowds intent on having deep conversations with themselves. But a great feature of the night is that Clyde’s is also an amazing restaurant, offering delicious treats that no true drunkard could pass up. Our favorites include crab and artichoke dip and the hummus platter. Both are served with yummy pita bread that is so good it will make you blush. There is so much eating, drinking, and merriment going on Sundays at Clyde's of Georgetown that it's no wonder it was the inspiration to the 1976 hit "Afternoon Delight" (The gold record still hangs in the restaurant)!

So next time you feel like making Monday morning even more difficult then it normally is, try half price wine night at Clyde’s of Georgetown. Remember, half the price equals double the fun!

This is a great description of Clyde's wine night, except I have to completely disagree with you on not making friends there. I've been going for awhile now and have made some really good friends just based on our mutual love of half priced wine!
